Family Trees

The O’Mahony Society does not post family trees online.  The Council recommends the following strategy to our members to best increase their likelihood of contact by others researching ANY of their family ancestors:

Post your ENTIRE family tree online on FamilySearch at www.familysearch.org.  This is a no-cost service and website maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and is the preferred family tree repository of the Society.

Posting your entire family tree at the FamilySearch site provides the following advantages:

  • Totally free

  • One of the oldest and best known family tree posting sites with the backing of the LDS.

  • FamilySearch has user-friendly tutorials to help you navigate the site.

  • Provides opportunity for contact by others searching for any branch of your family, not just your O’Mahony ancestors.

You can also post your family tree at additional websites like the subscription sites Genes Reunited (popular in Ireland, Scotland and UK family trees with a modest annual fee) and Ancestry.com (largest subscription family history/genealogy website). Be aware that posting on Ancestry.com (which hosts the separate and free Rootsweb site) is a distinctly separate tree posting; if you do not maintain your subscription, you will lose the connection feature which allows you to connect to others with trees posted on their site.

Wherever you choose to post your family tree, kindly be aware that the O Mahony Society has neither responsibility nor liability for the accuracy of the information posted.  The protection of your personal electronic information is solely the responsibility of the provider (FamilySearch, Ancestry, Rootsweb, etc.)
